Antidepressants Less Effective For Many Living with Atypical Depression, New Study Finds.

This is a revised and expanded version of a post I made earlier on my LinkedIn account.

In the 21 years that I was prescribed various antidepressants (among other medications) one after the other, it was an atypical antipsychotic medication in low doses along with clomipramine antidepressant which was the last and most effective combination.

I also happened to display so many of the particular symptoms identified in this article associated with atypical depression, it fits me perfectly. I also can concur from personal experience how “alternative” treatments can be more effective, as I no longer have these particular symptoms since 2015 because of a combination of these approaches.

With greater clarity it is now established in my case the root cause was CPTSD, further complicated by a late Autism diagnosis. I am left to speculate that since the article reports that this type of depression seems to affect women more, perhaps chronic stress may be a ‘silent’ factor. It’s worth considering the mechanisms of cortisol in light of many of these reported symptoms.
